Mahou Showdown Cosplay Contest

Calling all magical girls, shojo MCs, cute creatures, and everything kawaii to our first-ever THEMED cosplay contest! From Sailor Moon to Sylveon to bedazzled pastel Mandolorians, we want to see your most adorable and magical costumes on our stage.

The "Mahou Showdown!" Cosplay Contest will be taking place on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. You MUST have a ticket to AniPop to participate in the Cosplay Contest.

1. Participants must check-in at least 60 minutes before the contest begins.
Failure to check-in means forfeiting your chance to perform.
2. Contestants can only enter with one performance. Entries must be solo (1) or duo (2); no large groups.
3. Costumes should be made, modified, or specifically assembled for the cosplay.
Handmade or heavily modified are great! Closet or thrifted cosplays should have some hand-made or modified elements, such as accessories (e.g. Lolita Pokemon with handmade ears and tail). Pre-made complete costumes are not allowed.
4. Entries will be vetted by staff for theme only. Skill level, source material, etc, will not be a factor.
5. Do not enter or exit the staging area except at the designated points. Follow all staff instructions for your own safety.
6. Entries will have up to 1 minute (1:00) to get on stage and pose to our provided music.
7. This is a family-friendly event, so no nudity or profanity is allowed, nor are obscene or vulgar acts, gestures, or comments. Costumes must have coverage that is street-legal.
If in doubt, ask yourself if you would wear it to Disneyland's Mickey's Halloween Party.
8. No discrimination, racism, or hate speech of any kind is allowed.
No political or religious statements via costume or commentary will be permitted.
9. All weapons and props must adhere to the weapons policy.
No weapons or props may be sharp or be able to launch projectiles. Nothing may be launched at all, no matter how "safe" a participant claims it to be.
10. Judging will be done by our panel of qualified judges.
Craftsmanship judging is optional, and will be done before the show.
11. Costumes must be self-contained and not need any external support or utilities (e.g. electricity)
12. Large, elaborate costumes must be handled by the contestant.
Staff will be limited in their ability to assist so we recommend bringing your own handler.
13. You will not be able to provide your own music–be prepared to pose with the music provided.
14. Failure to abide by these rules will result in removal from the current performance and a one (1) year ban from participating in future events.
